Spring Convention takes place
Last Saturday saw the annual RAYNET Spring Convention taking place in Oxfordshire. Over fifty delegates attended the day.

The first presentation was on Exercise Surge, a report on which appeared in January's RAY~Link. Video and drone footage of the three-day exercise was shown to the audience by Colin Bowman, West Kent group controller, before David Walsh explained some of the technical issues with providing internet coverage for participants. Steve Scully, Senior Resilience Officer of Kent Resilience Team, put into perspective the important role RAYNET played in the exercise.

An update on training was the focus for the second presentation, given by Roger Alexander. Two Train the Trainers courses have already taken place, with seventeen members having already completed the two-day course. The next one takes place in Manchester on 24th/25th June.

After lunch, Greg Mossop presented the finalised Technical Survey results, combining both sets of data. After some further in-depth analysis of the data, the report will be published on the national website.

The report prompted lively discussion in the open forum which followed.

Committee of Management meeting - 12th March
The Committee of Management met the day after the convention.

CoM welcomed Roland Taylor M0BDB, Zone 4 Co-ordinator, to his first meeting.

The 2017 AGM venue was agreed and will take place on Saturday 21st October at the Bristol Civil Service Sports Club, Filton Avenue, Bristol BS7 0AT. The venue has ample parking and is within easy reach of the major motorways. A post-AGM meal is also being arranged.

Financial matters regarding new banking arrangements were finalised, details of which will be announced in due course. Preliminary end of year accounts were also discussed.

In accordance with the agreement between the RSGB and RAYNET-UK, signed in October 2016, two members of the RSGB's Emergency Communications Committee will be joining the Committee of Management during the transitional period.

Changes to the design of the RAYNET ID card and workwear were discussed and details will be available shortly.

Items from Zonal reports were highlighted, and additional reports from the Emergency Planning Team and Training were also received.
