East Coast RAYNET groups active
North Anglia RAYNET was requested by West Norfolk Emergency Planning unit to assist with communications on Thursday 12 January.

This was to support operations in the Hunstanton/Heacham/Snettisham areas relating to high tides. In the end, due to changes in forecasts and weather, the planned deployment did not take place.

However, members remain on standby as further activity is planned for the tides today (Friday 13th January). A predicted storm surge in the east of England, with severe flood warnings, was put in place by the Environment Agency. High tides and gales were expected to bring disruption along the east coast overnight and into today.

The "severe" categorisation means the Agency has warned of a "danger to life".

The situation in Essex has continued to deteriorate and Essex members were deployed last night to the DERC at Weeley, a rest centre and forward holding centre in Jaywick.

A reception centre and a further rest centre are planned to be opened at 07:00 this morning.

The situation is continually changing and further updates are awaited.

Latest Update from Essex - 0900 Saturday 14th January 2017

Essex RAYNET now only have four operators on site at Tendring. The remaining rest centre will be closed at 09:00, at which time we will be stood down.

The night tide passed peacefully with no overtopping in Tendring. A number of residents were evacuated from Jaywick and these have now been allowed to return home.

There were offers of assistance from Mid Herts, South West Herts, Suffolk and Medway Raynet groups. In the event, the assistance was not needed but we are very grateful for those offers.
